How to Do a Varial Kickflip on a Skateboard

This is a step by step tutorial on how to do a varial kickflip on a skateboard, which is a combination of a backside pop shove it and a kickflip.

The varial kickflip is a combination of a backside pop shove it and a kickflip. Of course then you should know how to do both of those tricks and have them on lock.

Step 1:  Place your back foot like you would for a backside pop shove it except when learning varial kickflips you may want to place it slightly more forward so that your toes are hanging slightly off the side.

Step 2:  Place your front foot like you would for a kickflip but slightly further down and with a little less foot on the board. You may also want to place your foot at more of an angle so that it is pointing more towards to nose of your board.

Step 3:  Pop and scoop with your back foot while at the same time flicking strait out with your front foot. You will want to flick exactly like you would for a kickflip.

Step 4:  Do not try and jump up and land them when starting out. At first you just need to learn to spin your board and make it do a varial kickflip. Get the spin on lock!

Step 5:  Once you can spin your board properly and you feel like it’s time to start trying to land the trick, then you will need to do the motions described in step 3 while at the same time jumping up and forward. You will also want to suck in your knees so as to allow the board to spin all of the way.

Step 6:  Keep trying and don’t give up! I know how annoying it can be trying to land this trick but keep persisting and you will get it. Read some of the solutions to some of the trouble spots you may have while learning this trick below.

Trouble Spot 1:  When trying to flip the board you may get the full 180 rotation, but only half a kickflip. Sometimes the reason this happens is because you are not giving enough flick to your board. The solution is to kick out further. Try to make sure that you are flicking the corner pocket of your nose. Another reason this happens is because you are either putting too much or not enough foot on the board. If you put too much foot on the board then you will not be able to get enough flick, but on the other hand if you do not have enough foot on the board then you will not have enough shoe to be able to slide all of the way up your board to the corner pocket of the nose so that you can get a full kickflip.

Trouble Spot 2:  When trying to actually land the trick you will almost assuredly land premo at least a couple of times. The reason this happens is the same reason that you will have the trouble mentioned in trouble spot 1. So just use the same techniques of getting the full kickflip spin.

Trouble Spot 3: When almost landing varial kickflips you will probably be landing with half of each foot on the heel side of your board and then getting thrown back. When this happens it just means that you need to jump forward more. The problem though is usually that you can’t spin a full varial kickflip when you do this. The only solution is to learn how to spin it and jump forward enough to land on the bolts.

Thanks! How long has he been skating?

Hey I\'m having trouble with this trick. I have the spin on lock. It gets the full rotation quickly and cleanly. But when I commit to it i land the trick only half way. It does the full 180 but only half the kickflip and I land in the middle of the board with both feet. why can\'t I land it? Please help
