How to Do a Varial Heelflip on a Skateboard

This is a step by step tutorial on how to do a varial heelflip which is a combination of a heelflip and a frontside 180 pop shove it.

The varial heelflip is a combination of a kickflip and a frontside 180 pop shove it. So you should be able to perform both of thses tricks cleanly and consistantly. This is usually a trick that skaters learn after learning all of the standard and basic flip tricks.

Step 1:  Place your back foot in the rear pocket of your board with your heel hanging off of the edge.

Step 2:  Place your front foot slightly above the middle of your board with your toes hanging off the edge. You will need to experiment and see how much foot that you need to put on the board and see what works best for you.

Step 3:  Pop HARD and give a slight forward shove with your back foot while at the same time kicking strait out and making sure to flick the front pocket of the nose with your heel, otherwise you will not spin the heelflip part of the trick.

Step 4:  Learn how to consistantly spin a varial heelfip and before moving on to the next step!

Step 5:  At the same time that you perform step 3, jump up and back. You also need to suck in your knees allowing the board to flip all of the way. Learn how to cordinate all of these moves.

Step 6:  Learn how to get the timing right so that you can catch and land the trick properly.

Step 7:  Practice, practice, and practice until you've got in consistantly! Read the solutions to some of the trouble spots that you will encounter when trying to learn this trick below.

Trouble Spot 1: When first trying to spin varial heelflips you will probably either be spinning a heelflip but only half of a frontside pop shove or only half a heelflip and a full frontside pop shove it. The only way to solve this is to focus more on the part of the trick that you are having trouble with, and just learn how to cordinate all of the moves so that you can correctly spin the board.

Trouble Spot 2: Once you can spin the board correctly and are trying to land it you may be landing in front of your board. The only thing that you can do to solve this is to jump back farther and harder.

Trouble Spot 3:  If you are catching the board too early, then you need to jump higher and suck your knees in more.
